Don't Take Any Chances on Your Oral Health

Severe Tooth Pain Doesn’t Wait. Neither Should You.

Tooth pain has a way of demanding your full attention. Whether it’s a sharp jolt every time you bite down, a dull throb that’s been building for days, or a sudden ache that woke you up at 2 a.m., a toothache is your mouth’s way of signaling that something is wrong and getting worse. At Fox View Dental, Dr. Chad Yenchesky and our team take dental pain seriously. We reserve time in our schedule specifically for patients in distress, so when a toothache becomes unbearable, you have somewhere to turn the same day.

Call our dental clinic in De Pere at (920) 336-4201. We’ll get you in, get to the source of your pain, and get you back to your life.

Why Patients in Pain Trust Fox View Dental

When a patient named Paul came in with a dental emergency, he left a review that captures what we aim for every time: “What a friendly and caring environment. They were able to get me in and take care of the issue quickly. Dr. Chad was very friendly and did an outstanding job with my tooth. I’m very grateful I was able to get into Fox View Dental.”

That experience isn’t an accident. Dr. Yenchesky has invested well over 1,000 hours in continuing education throughout his career, averaging roughly 100 hours of advanced training per year, more than six times the state requirement. That depth of expertise means that when you come in with a complicated or painful situation, you’re not getting a generalist’s guess. You’re getting an experienced clinician who has seen it, trained for it, and treated it. Combined with the comfort amenities our practice is known for, from cozy blankets and neck pillows to flat-screen TVs and prairie views from the exam chair, we work hard to make a stressful situation as manageable as possible.

What’s Causing Your Toothache?

Tooth pain is a symptom, not a diagnosis. The same throbbing ache can come from a cavity that caught you off guard, a cracked tooth you didn’t know you had, or an infection that’s been quietly developing beneath the gumline for weeks. Some of the most common causes our team sees include:

Tooth decay is one of the leading culprits. As bacteria erode enamel and work their way toward the nerve, sensitivity turns into pain that ranges from occasional to constant.

  • A dental abscess often produces some of the most intense and unrelenting pain patients describe, typically paired with swelling and sometimes a bad taste in the mouth.
  • Cracked or fractured teeth can cause sharp, intermittent pain that’s difficult to pinpoint, especially when pressure is applied and released during chewing.
  • Gum disease and periodontal infections can create aching discomfort and tenderness that patients sometimes mistake for a tooth problem.
  • Impacted wisdom teeth, which haven’t fully erupted or have grown in at an angle, can generate significant pressure and pain in the back of the jaw.
  • Trauma from an accident or sports injury can affect teeth immediately or trigger pain days later as the nerve responds to damage.
  • Tooth sensitivity from worn enamel or exposed root surfaces can make hot, cold, and sweet foods briefly but intensely painful.
  • Sinus infections and TMJ disorders can also produce discomfort that mimics a toothache, making professional diagnosis especially important.

When Your Toothache Is a Dental Emergency

Not every toothache requires a same-day call, but several situations do. Contact Fox View Dental immediately if you’re dealing with any of the following:

  • Pain that is severe, unrelenting, or rapidly worsening and isn’t responding to over-the-counter pain relievers.
  • Swelling in the face, jaw, or gums can signal an infection spreading beyond the tooth.
  • Fever or chills alongside tooth pain, which suggests the infection may be entering the bloodstream.
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing, which warrants an immediate emergency room visit, as these symptoms can indicate that swelling is threatening your airway.
  • Pus draining from around a tooth or gums that are bleeding without an obvious cause.
  • A tooth that has been knocked out, loosened, or pushed out of position.
  • Jaw pain, limited mouth opening, or a clicking jaw combined with dental discomfort.

Call us at (920) 336-4201. Dr. Yenchesky will evaluate your symptoms, get to a diagnosis with same-day digital imaging, and discuss your options clearly before any treatment begins.

What to Do Before You Get to Our De Pere Dental Office

These measures won’t fix the problem, but they can take the edge off while you wait to be seen:

  • A warm saltwater rinse helps clear debris from around the affected tooth and reduces bacterial load in the immediate area. It’s a simple step that can provide modest, temporary relief.
  • A cold compress applied to the outside of the cheek for 15 to 20 minutes at a time can reduce swelling and numb the area slightly. Keep it wrapped in a clean cloth to protect your skin.
  • If you need to sleep, elevating your head with an extra pillow can reduce blood pressure around the affected tooth and ease the throbbing that tends to intensify when lying flat.

Over-the-counter NSAIDs like ibuprofen are the most effective choice for dental pain because they reduce both pain and inflammation. Acetaminophen is a reliable alternative if NSAIDs aren’t appropriate for you. Topical benzocaine gels, available at most pharmacies, can temporarily numb a painful area and are a reasonable bridge measure if you need to wait a few hours for your appointment.

How Dr. Yenchesky Treats Emergency Toothaches

What separates an emergency dental visit from a band-aid is accurate diagnosis. Dr. Yenchesky uses advanced digital X-rays and diagnostics to identify exactly what’s driving your pain before recommending treatment. From there, the path forward depends on what’s actually wrong.

When decay is the source of your pain, removing the damaged tissue and placing a tooth-colored composite filling often resolves the problem in a single visit. The procedure is quick, precise, and designed to match the natural appearance of your tooth.

When the infection has reached the pulp of the tooth, root canal therapy is usually the right approach and the one that saves your tooth. Despite its reputation, a modern root canal performed with proper local anesthesia is far closer to a filling in terms of discomfort than the procedure’s notoriety suggests. Dr. Yenchesky removes the infected tissue, disinfects the canal system, and seals the tooth. A crown placed afterward restores the tooth to full function.

When a tooth is too compromised to save, extraction removes the source of pain and protects the surrounding teeth and bone. Dr. Yenchesky performs extractions with care and precision, and will walk you through tooth replacement options, including dental implants, once healing is underway.

When an abscess is present, treatment may involve drainage to relieve pressure, antibiotics to control the spread of infection, and definitive treatment to address the source. Antibiotics alone cannot eliminate an abscess, which is why professional intervention is always necessary.

When a cracked or chipped tooth is involved, Fox View Dental’s CEREC technology means Dr. Yenchesky can design, mill, and place a permanent ceramic crown in a single appointment. There’s no temporary crown, no second visit, and no waiting.

Preventing Future Toothaches

Once your immediate pain is resolved, the conversation turns to prevention. Brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and flossing every day are the non-negotiables. Beyond that, maintaining regular six-month exams at Fox View Dental gives Dr. Yenchesky the opportunity to catch problems before they become emergencies. Limiting sugary and acidic foods reduces the bacterial fuel supply that drives decay. And if you’re prone to grinding or clenching, a custom nightguard can protect your teeth from the cumulative stress that leads to fractures and sensitivity over time.
