When your shoes wear out, it’s pretty easy to tell that it’s time to get a new pair. But what about your toothbrush? If you are like most people, you probably don’t give this important but simple dental instrument a whole lot of thought.
In most cases, it’s best to routinely replace your toothbrush every three or four months, although kids might need to have their brushes replaced a bit more frequently. Get into the habit of buying several new toothbrushes for everyone in your family at the same time to make sure everyone’s toothbrush gets replaced because there are always brushes on hand.
In addition to replacing your toothbrush regularly, you should also visit the dentist twice each year. Dr. Chad Yenchensky is a family-friendly dentist in Green Bay; FoxView Dental is always accepting new patients!
Caring for Your Toothbrush Between Replacements
Whether you opt for a traditional toothbrush or go high-tech with one of the many electronic versions on the market today, it’s important that you keep the toothbrush clean. Be sure to rinse it well after using, then store it in a vertical position so the bristles can air dry. It’s best to keep the brush uncovered to aid in the drying. A closed container can also contribute to the buildup of bacteria. Be sure to store it, so it is not touching any other toothbrushes to avoid cross-contamination.
